What Kenra Watched: Beauty and the Beast

  1. I realize that I’ve been watching quite a number of movies lately. But here’s the scoop people, I love movies and I feel like I should be talking about them if I love movies, maybe share the ones that are worth watching and skip the ones that aren’t.
  2. I also realize that there has been a pattern with the past movies I’ve watched. And that is that NONE OF THEM ARE IN ENGLISH. Today we’re talking about a French film. You can be impressed with my worldly taste in film if you’d like. Go on. Do it.

So today we are reviewing the French film Beauty and the Beast. It was released in 2014 and is quite possibly the most visually stunning film I’ve seen in a long time. It was unfortunate that I had to watch it in two sittings because I was entranced by the special effects and the scenery and would have preferred to take it in all at once. If there is nothing else to love about this film, at least love how beautiful it is.

What Kenra Watched: Hadi Insallah

My sister has got me hooked on Bollywood movies. And it’s just about the greatest thing ever.

And what’s even better is that both Netflix and Amazon have an amazing selection of Bollywood movies to choose from. So I’ve been slowly chipping one movie at a time and falling further and further in love with Bollywood film.

Last night I accidentally mistook Hadi Insallah for a Bollywood movie when in actuality it’s a Turkish film. I realized quite quickly that the language I was hearing was not Hindu and the actors didn’t look of Indian descent. Silly me!

The Podcast Everyone Must Listen To

Have you ever heard of Donald Hollowell, or Elizabeth Thompson?

Have you ever wondered why people continue to donate thousands or millions of dollars to high end, successful and well-established universities like Stanford and Princeton rather than smaller, more humble colleges that could use the money to grow and progress?

Did you know that the fries you are eating at fast food are an impostor?

Have you ever heard of Moral Licensing? Or generous orthodoxy?

If you haven’t, that’s okay, I didn’t know anything about any of these things either, but now I’ve made it my goal for everyone to know about these subjects. And I learned all of these things from the most incredible podcast: Revisionist History.

First, let me introduce you to the voice behind the podcast.

Inspirational Content Creators

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I have been discovering and exposing myself to countless different inspiring people who all create content in unique and different ways. I always believe that credit should be given where credit is due. I would not be where I am without these amazing people.

What is so great about this list is that they are all women. Beautiful, unique, and driven women who have come from all walks of life and are each beautiful in their own unique way. They inspire authenticity and real genuine discussions about being a creator, about pursuing your creative career, and just how to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

So let’s get started, shall we?

Acknowledging Fear

Lately, I have been consuming content that is all about self-improvement, lifestyle habits and all sorts of ‘inspo’ for the creative soul. I can’t help but desire to create more and when I listen, watch, and absorb such inspiring content from successful people. It can be such a struggle, however, and I’m realizing that it’s not the desire – or passion – that I am lacking. Inspiration, ideas, and the excitement to make something is simply boiling inside of me.

Uncorking Creativity

Something pretty rad happened to me today, and I can’t help myself and I must brag to all of the world about it. It’s silly and one of those worldly, selfish things that you probably shouldn’t be so excited about, but you just can’t help yourself from feeling all of the good feelings about it.

I got a new computer.

And not only that, but I built a computer.

Writing Brave: 5 Simple Pieces of Advice for Beginners

Once again, I must disclaim that by no means am I a credible source for 5-star writing. This is simply for yours and my own enjoyment. I’d rather get you excited for writing than overwhelm you with rules of syntax and grammar.

These are five things that I’ve discovered over the years that are important to know and practice when you are beginning your first piece of writing.

Catching Up With the Lioness

It’s been two months and three days since the last time I have posted on the Lovely Lioness. It’s nice to be back, but I feel sorry for being gone for so long.

Much has happened since July 18th. Obviously Writing Brave did not take off in a BOOM! like I had hoped and imagined it would. It’s nobody’s fault but my own. I still intend to resume Writing Brave, but maybe I’ll hold off on starting it just right now. Right now, I need to figure out how to balance my work life, social life and the life that I actually want to live.

So let’s catch you up on what The Lovely Lioness has been up to since July 18th.

Writing Brave

I write to give myself strength. I write to be the characters that I am not. I write to explore all of the things that I am afraid of.

-Joss Whedon

I’ve had a small number of people throughout the years ask for writing advice from me. By no means do I count myself as an expert in writing since I have never been published, never actually finished writing a novel, and I haven’t taken an English class since high school (yeesh). My credibility on this subject is pretty low when you think logically.

The Ultimate Summer Playlist 2017

I love playlists. I make a playlist nearly every month with songs that fit my mood and what’s going on in my life. It can range from 30 to 150 songs and it nearly always includes a Goo Goo Dolls song and “Heartbreak Dream” by Betty Who.

I thought it would be fun to make a playlist that befits this summer to share with you lovely folks. Some songs may be new. Some songs may be old. Some songs may be in the middle. But I can guarantee that I’ll be blasting it all summer long.
